The consistently flawless music superstar and international guitar hero JOE BONAMASSA is back with a new single taken from his highly anticipated upcoming album, due out later this year.
Titled “Notches” the number represents Joe’s tenacious & tireless adventure in rock ‘n’ blues music.
The blues-rock artist is a little older than when he started out, of course, though now shrewder and seasoned, yet his sound nevertheless remains raw & vibrant, and comes bundled with the kind of unwavering skill that is only earned through consistency, durability, and years of steadfast professionalism.
The new single is a rumbling, growling and howling clomp that pays homage to the artist’s resilient history, but with an eye to the future as the daring blues craftsman continues to bend genres, pummel down walls of expectation, and challenge the paradigms of the music industry.
Joe vocalizes the lyrics in “Notches” with a smooth vibe that gets better and better with each of his releases, while declaring, “I got miles under my wheels. Notches in my walkin’ cane.”
This is a walloping great anthem, filled with spike, bounce and claw-back… perfect for this season of restoration and rejoinder.
The magnificent official cinematic music video (shared below) was directed by award-winning cinematographer Paul van Kan. It was recorded with longtime collaborators Kevin Shirley as producer and manager/business partner Roy Weisman as executive producer.
The Australianish track was mixed by Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, Toto, Bon Jovi) and was co-written with Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke.
Recorded in New York City at Germano Studios/The Hit Factory the band includes Steve Mackey (bass), Lachy Doley (piano), Bunna Lawrie (didgeridoo), Bobby Summerfield (percussion), and Late Night with David Letterman‘s Anton Fig (drums and percussion), along with Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins, and Prinnie Stevens on backing vocals.
The fantastic artwork on this single was created by famous graphic artist Hugh Syme (Rush, Aerosmith, Whitesnake).
