The multi-award-winning singing ‘n’ songwriting Bristol bluethroat ELLES BAILEY has released a brand new single from her upcoming EP, due to be released next year.
In 2020, Elles was invited to collaborate with the outstanding jazz-funk outfit Redtenbacher’s Funkestra at the Masterlink Studio in Surrey to record her song Mumma & Me in a single live take, assembled around a lovely string arrangement, and with gorgeously stylish backing vocals from Kim Keyes.
The song presents Elles’ virtuosity in a comparatively different angle, drawing influence & sentiments from Dusty Springfield. Though less rocky & more soulful than her typical style, her expressiveness & the subtle reflections in her voice is, nevertheless, remain undeniably frontmost.
Written as a gift to my mother for Mother’s Day [this song] was Inspired by our unique personalities and her unconditional love…

The number, which was written & co-produced by Elles, with Stefan Redtenbacher, and engineer / producer James Welch (owner of Masterlink), is filled with gorgeous harmony lines and ravishing strings. The number also signals the beginning of a very exciting new chapter for the multiple-award winning Elles!
Elles’ studio band for this song involved Stefan Redtenbacher on bass, Tony Remy on guitar, Ross Stanley on Hammond and piano, Mike Sturgis on drums, Kim Keyes on BGVs, and strings from violinists Sarah Brandwood-Spencer and Pete Whitfield, and violist Simon Turner.
“I’m very proud of ‘Mumma and Me’, “reflects Elles, “It was written during the first couple of weeks of lockdown, as a gift to my mother for Mother’s Day (whom I of course, couldn’t see). Inspired by our unique personalities and her unconditional love, I truly feel I captured her spirit in this song.“
